Who We Are

GripDeck® Limited is a specialist UK manufacturer and supplier of anti-slip timber decking and retrofit anti-slip products. We work with contractors, architects, local authorities, visitor attractions, marinas, hotels, commercial developments and homeowners who need safer outdoor surfaces without compromising on appearance.

Our core product range includes softwood anti-slip decking, hardwood anti-slip decking, ThermoDeck®, RetroGrip® inserts, stair nosings, treads, specialist panels and related safety products.

Our focus: helping customers create safer timber decking surfaces for wet, exposed and high-footfall environments using proven anti-slip technology.

Why GripDeck® Was Created

GripDeck® was created because traditional timber decking can become dangerously slippery when wet, shaded or affected by algae, moss and organic contamination. At the time, many available anti-slip solutions relied on tapes, surface coatings or industrial-looking products that did not suit the appearance of natural timber decking.

GripDeck® was developed as a more permanent and attractive solution: anti-slip inserts integrated directly into the timber board. The aim was to retain the natural appearance of wood while adding a durable, high-grip walking surface where people actually place their feet.

The GripDeck® Story

GripDeck® was founded by Mike Sant after many years of experience in anti-slip flooring and public access safety products. The business was built around a simple idea: timber decking should be safer underfoot while still looking attractive and natural.

Acme Flooring origins of GripDeck anti-slip decking and safety surfacing experience

Where It Started

The origins of GripDeck® can be traced back to Acme Flooring, where Mike Sant gained valuable experience in anti-slip flooring and public access safety products before founding GripDeck® in 2000.

Anti-Slip Experience

GripDeck® was developed from many years of practical experience working with anti-skid flooring, safety surfacing and public access products.

Timber Decking Innovation

The goal was to create an anti-slip timber decking system that improved safety while keeping the natural appearance of timber.

Company Timeline

1990s – The Foundation

Mike Sant worked for Acme Flooring, a company known for anti-skid panels used on public access structures including railways, ports, marinas and industrial sites.

Late 1990s – Product Development

Mike recognised the need for a more attractive anti-slip solution for timber decking, rather than relying only on tapes, coatings or more industrial-looking surface products.

2000 – GripDeck® Founded

GripDeck® Limited was established and began developing anti-slip insert systems for timber decking.

Growth & Product Development

The first GripDeck® strips were pre-formed and mechanically fixed into timber. The process later developed into a resin and aggregate insert system applied into the board surface.

Today – Modern UK Manufacturing

GripDeck® continues to invest in equipment, automation, testing and product development, manufacturing anti-slip decking and retrofit safety products for a wide range of sectors.

Ongoing Innovation

Our products continue to evolve through testing, customer feedback, project experience and improved manufacturing methods.

Manufactured in Essex

GripDeck® is not simply a reseller of decking. Our anti-slip products are prepared and manufactured in Essex using controlled processes developed over more than two decades.

Depending on the product and timber profile, our work can include checking incoming timber, preparing boards, cutting insert grooves where required, applying resin and aggregate inserts, quality inspection, packing and arranging delivery. For our GripDeck® Insert Service, customers can send suitable new timber to our factory for anti-slip inserts to be factory-bonded into prepared grooves.

Controlled Production

Anti-slip inserts are applied under factory conditions for consistent quality and reliable bonding.

Bespoke Manufacturing

We can support different timber species, board sizes, profiles, insert layouts and project quantities.

Quality Inspection

Boards are checked before packing and dispatch to help ensure the finished product meets the agreed specification.

Factory-Applied Inserts

Anti-slip inserts are applied into the decking board surface during manufacture, helping create a consistent, durable and attractive finish.

Retrofit Solutions

RetroGrip® products allow existing grooved decking, steps and walkways to be upgraded without replacing the original boards.
