Spitbank Fort Decking Project
GripDeck® hardwood anti-slip decking supplied for the rooftop sun deck and hot tub area at the luxury Spitbank Fort retreat in the Solent.
GripDeck® Hardwood Anti-Slip Decking for Spitbank Fort
GripDeck® supplied hardwood anti-slip decking for the rooftop sun deck and hot tub area at Spitbank Fort, one of the historic Solent sea forts located off the coast of Portsmouth.
Originally built as part of the Victorian coastal defence network, Spitbank Fort has since been transformed into a unique luxury hospitality destination. The rooftop deck areas required a premium timber finish capable of delivering both visual appeal and reliable slip resistance in a challenging marine environment.
The Challenge
The rooftop deck areas at Spitbank Fort are fully exposed to the marine environment, including rain, sea air, wind and year-round weather exposure.
The decking would be used by hotel guests around the rooftop sun terrace and hot tub areas, where wet feet, standing water and heavy use can increase the risk of slipping.
The project required a premium hardwood decking solution that would complement the luxury surroundings while providing improved grip underfoot.
The Solution
GripDeck® supplied 28mm Balau hardwood decking with two factory-applied anti-slip inserts per board.
Balau was selected for its durability, strength and attractive natural appearance, making it well suited to a high-end hospitality project.
The factory-applied GripDeck® anti-slip inserts provide long-term slip resistance while maintaining the premium appearance expected of a luxury destination.
